Comeback Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in Over Two Years

19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after spring of that year.

The win also means he has achieved 21 titles at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

His defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had caused observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour title, took control to create a decider.

The opponent saved four initial break points in a close deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
